RM1mil slip road to be ready by year end

What say you on the issue below?

CONSTRUCTION of a new slip road from Bercham to the North-South Expressway to ease traffic congestion in the area is on track for completion by the year end.

Ipoh city councillor Lai Kong Phooi said the RM1mil project, which began in early October, was already 90% completed.

Speaking to MetroPerak, he said the 7m-wide single carriageway had already been completed and the streetlights were already up.

“But we need a little more time to install the electricity cables to light up the streetlights and for various safety features as well as landscaping works to be carried out,” he said.

Almost done: A motorist seen here using the completed roundabout, while the almost completed Bercham slip road leading to the North-South Expressway is on the right.

The safety features, he said, included retarding lines to slow down oncoming traffic on the expressway and road markers.

Lai said he had made a request with the council to erect signboards along Jalan Bercham to inform motorists of the existence of the slip road, which was being constructed near the Kiara Condominium and Bercham Light Industrial Area.

He said the cul-de-sac at the end of Laluan Bercham S11 and the roundabout at the slip road leading into the industrial area had been completed.

Lai expects the traffic on Jalan Bercham heading to the city centre to decrease by 30% with the completion of the slip road.

The road would enable Bercham residents to enter the expressway and head south, avoiding the massive traffic congestion while leaving the area.

It would also complement another slip road that is being constructed at nearby Taman Ipoh Bistari II to enable north-bound vehicles travelling on the expressway to enter Bercham, avoiding the congested Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah (U).
