Negri gives RM100,000 to Rotary International District 3300

What say you on the issue below?

ROTARY International District 3300 received a RM100,000 boost from the Negri Sembilan government at the service organisation’s 77th district conference in Seremban recently.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who announced the allocation at the launch of the event, expressed hope that the funds woud be put to good use to improve the lives of the less privileged.

“Rotarians have to be commended for their dedication in serving society, be it organising a health camp for their local community or providing aid to the needy.

“Their selfless service is not just limited to their own community and is irrespective of race or religious belief. When floods struck Bangkok recently, Rotarians from District 3300 pooled their resources to lend a helping hand to our northern neighbours by providing drinking water for victims,” he said.

It was a homecoming of sorts for Rotarians as the first Rotary club in the country was chartered in Seremban in 1929.

Rotary International District 3300 encompasses 75 clubs in Peninsular Malaysia.

Some 400 Rotarians from all over the country and other districts including Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, India, Pakistan, Taiwan and the United States attended the three-day event.

Mohamad said the organisation could work hand-in-hand with local government agencies to assist the needy especially those in rural areas.

“Taking care of the needs of the underprivileged especially those in rural areas are our collective responsibility.

“I do hope we will be able to work together in order to improve the lives of the needy,” he said, adding that he would not hesitate to provide assistance to the organisation should the need arise.

Rotary International District 3300 district governor Dr S.Raveendra Kumar, who expressed his gratitude for the generous contribution, said the funds would be channeled to projects run by the organisation.

“The state goverment has always supported our programmes which include disease prevention and treatment, literacy and community development.

“The allocation given by the state will definitely enable us to carry out more projects which benefit needy communities,” he said.

Rotary International president’s personal representative Aziz Memon applauded District 3300 for their various projects and expressed hope that member clubs would continue their humanitarian efforts.

“Membership development and humanitarian projects in District 3300 have been praiseworthy and you have been able to set new standards by sheer hard work and motivation.

“The district conference itself is a major event in the Rotary annual calendar. It is a time for fellowship and to discuss programmes and activities with other Rotarians,” he said.

He said one of the organisation’s major concern was disease prevention and treatment with the eradication of polio its top priority.

“Eradicating polio worldwide has been one of our priorities for over two decades. We have raised funds to carry out immunisation programmes and to create awareness of the disease.

“Our efforts have borne fruit and we are very proud to say that in the past year, India which was one of the affected countries, did not report a single new case,” he said.
