Festive cheer for 50 kids

ABOUT 50 children from the Jariah Centre in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang, were given some festive cheer at a Majlis Berbuka Puasa recently.

The children, aged between seven and 17 years, were guests at the annual event hosted by Credit Guarantee Corporation Malaysia Berhad (CGC) at its head office in Kelana Jaya, Petaling Jaya, recently.

Cherished tradition: Kasi (third from left) presenting duit raya to the children as Wan Azhar (second from left) looks on.

Warmly welcomed on arrival, the youngsters attended a motivational ceramah delivered by Ustaz Ahmad Mustafa Sidin Al-Hafiz, the chief imam of Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah in Shah Alam, before the breaking of fast.

As they later joined their hosts at dinner and enjoyed a spread of traditional cuisine, the children chatted with their “adoptive” parents – CGC employees who had volunteered to “adopt” them for the evening under the “Adopt-A Child” programme.

“The act of giving and sharing life’s blessings with the children, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, gives us the opportunity to show that we love and care for the less fortunate members of society,” CGC managing director Datuk Azhar Wan Ahmad said.

The Jariah Centre and the children also received a contribution of more than RM7,000, courtesy of CGC and its employees. Wan Azhar presented the cheque to Jariah Centre representative Abdullah Ariffin.

The CGC board of directors – Datuk P. Kasi, Datuk Tan Yew Thong and Zaiton Mohd Hassan – presented duit raya and door gifts to the children, adding to their joy.

The contribution by the employees was raised through a charity drive organised during the first week of Ramadan and also through CGC’s annual Merdeka Charity Jumble Sale.

“Today’s contribution is part of the corporation’s initiatives to give back to society, and, in particular, to charities that deserve our support.

“In supporting Rumah Jariah Bandar Country Homes Rawang, we hope we have helped to make the forthcoming Hari Raya more meaningful for the children,” Wan Azhar said.
