KUALA LUMPUR: The main squad players of Kedah's football team will receive a reward of RM15,000 each for emerging as runner-up in the 2015 Malaysia Cup football tournament, says Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
"We know the Kedah squad fought without hoping for any big reward all this while, but with this extraordinary achievement, after discussions with the relevant parties, we have agreed to give this reward," the Kedah Menteri Besar told reporters at a dinner to fete the Kedah team Sunday night.
Mukhriz said other players would also be rewarded based on the percentage of time they spent playing for the team.
He said the team's next mission was to focus on the Super League.
"The team will rest until February. After this, the focus will be to spruce up the team for next season," he said.
Yang diPertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah feted the team at a dinner at Istana Negara Sunday night.
Kedah emerged as runner-up in the Malaysia Cup football tournament this year after losing to Selangor 0-2 in the final at Shah Alam Stadium Saturday night.
