TERATAI residents have sent a memorandum to Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim requesting a site for a Chinese primary school in the Teratai constituency, especially Pandan Perdana, Cheras.
Mohd Firdaus Babh, who spoke in fluent Mandarin to the media at the state assembly building, said there was no Chinese school in Pandan Perdana.
“We were promised a Chinese school more than three years ago.
“However, this week we saw that the Chinese press reported that the site identified for a school (in Jalan Perdana 6/2) has been earmarked for a mini-stadium,” he said.
The 24-year-old who studied in a Chinese primary school, said: “A Chinese school is much needed especially in Pandan Perdana as almost 90% of the residents in this area such as Cheras Indah, Maju Jaya, and Taman Shamelin Perkasa, are Chinese.
“Furthermore, there is an increasing number of non-Chinese enrolling in Chinese schools,” he said.
In a press statement, the residents said no one had sought their opinion or agreement for the building of a mini-stadium. “We think that schools should be given priority over sports facilities like a stadium. We have never requested for a stadium in Pandan Perdana as there are facilities nearby,” he said.
Khalid’s secretary Norzatun Aini Mohd Kasim accepted the memorandum on his behalf.
