KUALA LUMPUR: There were racks of multi-coloured baju kurung on display, but Afiqah Hamdan, nine, had no problem picking a pink baju kurung – her favourite colour.

Afiqah were among the 120 under-privileged children from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim dan Miskin in Sungai Pinang, Klang, and Rumah Kesayanganku in Bukit Beruntung who were treated to a shopping excursion yesterday.

Colourful choices: AmBank Group secretary Rozita Shahadan and committee member Tuan Alimin Tuan Ibrahim getting the children to try out the clothes during their shopping in Kuala Lumpur Wednesday.

AmBank Group’s sports club brought the children and their guardians to Maroz Tailoring in Jalan Masjid India to shop for new baju kurung and baju Melayu.

The children aged between two and 17 years had a busy time choosing their new clothes, shoes, songkok and tudung at the shop.

Mohd Faruk Muhammad, 13, was seen grinning happily as he clutched his bag of new clothes.

“I’m very happy to have new clothes. This Raya, I will be going home to Port Klang to see my mother. I haven’t seen her for more than a month,” he said, adding that his elder sister and younger brother are also under the care of the same welfare home.

The club’s chairman, Aziz Isa, and members came along during the shopping excursion to help the children pick their Raya clothes.

Later in the evening, AmBank Group chairman Tan Sri Datuk Azman Hashim and senior staff broke fast with the children and their guardians at Bangunan AmBank Group in Jalan Raja Chulan followed by tarawikh prayers.

“This buka puasa session is one activity we look forward to every year in the holy month of Ramadan. This is one way for us to contribute to the less fortunate, in line with the Islamic teachings of caring, self-discipline, sacrifice and sympathy for the less fortunate,

“We are pleased to have the children. Their presence certainly makes this Ramadan a meaningful occasion,” he said.
