YAN: The flood situation in Yan is reported to be improving as 51 flood victims from 12 families in Kampung Sungai Malai have been allowed to return home.

Flood operations centre spokesman for Yan district, Fauziah Osman said the families that have returned home were earlier housed at the Kampung Sungai Malai Surau.

“There is every possibility that those from Kampung Titi Teras and Kampung Teroi Bukit will be allowed to return home by today if there is no rain.”

Fauziah added that flood waters in both villages had subsided to 0.12m.

Meanwhile, in Pendang, about 174 members from 48 families remained at flood relief centres as water at the Sungai Pendang and Sungai Cegar rivers exceeded the danger level by 3.12m and 5.20m respectively.

Pendang district Flood Operations Centre spokesman Salim Aziz said although rain had stopped falling in the areas, the water level at both rivers remained dangerous.
