Sex videos won’t affect delegates’ decision, says Wee

What say you on the issue below?

PUTRAJAYA: MCA central delegates at the Oct 10 extraordinary general meeting (EGM) will be wise enough to make the right decision despite the resurfacing of Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek’s sex DVD, said party central committee member Wee Jeck Seng.

Describing the availability of the DVDs so near the EGM as unfortunate, Wee said he did not believe it would affect the decision of delegates.

The sex DVD that was released in late 2007 led to the downfall of Dr Chua. It is a recording of a tryst between the suspended MCA deputy president and a woman.

Wee said the issue was already a known fact and the delegates would weigh matters that were important for the future of the party when they vote.

“I feel the best thing to do now is to say as little as possible on the issue of the DVD and allow the police to investigate and find out who is responsible for releasing it.

“It is not right to speculate on who is responsible as this will only complicate matters,” he told reporters at a press conference to announce the Malaysian Outstanding Youth Conference to be held at the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) campus in Sintok, Kedah on Oct 9.

The event, organised by the UUM Students’ Representative Council, is open to all youths and will include talks by young and successful entrepreneurs like SQC Management founder Dr Dominic Lau, Malaysian Institute of Human Resources Management vice-president Neelamehan Manickam and YourPartTime.com co-founder Micheal Tan.

Earlier, Wee, who is also Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, said the ministry was happy that efforts to get more youths involved in starting their own businesses had received encouraging response.

He said the percentage of youths interested in becoming entrepreneurs had increased from 51.6% in 2006 to 63.3% last year and the number was rising.

“One of the ministry’s objectives is to create more young entrepreneurs who are capable of coming up with business ideas that might even be successful globally,” he said.

Wee added that while the ministry was always willing to provide the know-how and funding for youths to start their own businesses, the private sector and tertiary students too should play their part.
