News anchor Rizal Zulkapli doesn’t fancy the usual dates, kuih or even going for a buffet to break fast during the month of Ramadan.
The 26-year-old said he would rather buka puasa at home where he could enjoy his mother’s home -cooked meals. Or else, he said, he would pop into his favourite Italian restaurant for a meal.
“Members of my family do not fancy eating dates for buka puasa. If there is a plate of it on the table, it’ll just remain untouched,” said Rizal.
He admits that diving straight to the rice and main dishes on the buffet line was his style.
“So, if I had to go for a buffet dinner to buka puasa, you’d see me walking to the main dishes first. This way I don’t waste time,” said Rizal.
The former Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) student who anchors several shows on Astro Awani also said his must-have dish every Ramadan was the home-cooked Sambal Ikan Tenggiri.
“I have to have this dish at least once a month, so for Ramadan it is no different, I will make sure I am home for it or that my mother keeps some for me,” said Rizal who hails from Bangi, Selangor.
Like others, Rizal also has a favourite restaurant which he visits occasionally to break fast with his close friends.
His choice is Nero Vivo in Jalan Ceylon, Kuala Lumpur.
“I hardly go out but when I do I’d definitely stop here. Their pastas and pizzas are great,” said Rizal whose favourite is the Seafood Pasta and the Margarita Pizza.
He said the atmosphere in the restaurant and the taste of its pizzas made it the perfect getaway from the buzz of city life.
“It’s quiet and a great place to catch up with friends over a good meal.
“Most of us do not like going to crowded areas and joining the mad rush at buffet lines, so this place is just great,” said Rizal who would be celebrating Hari Raya in the city with his family.
