LOCAL councils should find ways to make themselves more approachable to the residents, said Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad.
He said organising community programmes and cooking sessions like making bubur lambuk to be shared with the public were part of such efforts.
“The councils should find ways to enhance ties with the residents within their jurisdiction,” he said.
He added that such activities would create a positive impression about the council.
Khalid said this when he visited MBSA employees who were cooking the bubur lambuk at Laman Budaya Shah Alam on Sept 4.
The event, organised by MBSA, saw representatives from all departments at the local council cooking the porridge which is commonly consumed during the fasting month.
The employees came to the site as early as 7am and donned aprons to cook the porridge.
“Each department was given separate tasks in preparing the porridge.
“Some cut the ingredients while others did the cooking,” said event chairman Norhalim Sirome.
The employees also contributed to the cost of making the porridge.
Norhalim, who is also a councillor, said 11 huge pots of porridge were cooked to be shared with the public.
