BUSINESS operators in Jalan 6 and Jalan 10, Taman Batu, off Taman Greenwood, Gombak, want contractors to keep their backlanes clean and have requested that the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) provide a huge rubbish bin for their convenience.
Although the garbage contractor collects rubbish thrice a week, the drains are not kept clean and the contractor sometimes fails to collect all the garbage, leaving some behind for the next collection.
According to Azmi Hashim, 50, this had led to the rubbish piling up in the backlanes.
“I have even seen huge rats at the backlane.
“When dengue cases are reported, Taman Batu has never failed to be one of the hot spots.
“If the rubbish bin is provided, we would have a place to dump our rubbish instead of having to place it in the backlanes.
“Pertubuhan Kebajikan Rumah Silaturrahim Nurul Qana’ah, an orphanage, is located on the third floor of one of these shoplots and the unhygienic condition is not suitable for the children staying there,” said Azmi, who has been doing business in the area for more than 15 years.
StarMetro visited the site and caught a glimpse of a dead rat at a pile of rubbish at the backlane.
Azmi added that MPS councillor Maznah Abd Aziz visited the site five months ago but nothing had improved.
When contacted, MPS president Datuk Zainal Abidin Azim said the council would cut the contractors‘ payment if they were found not to collect rubbish regularly.
“As for providing a huge rubbish bin at the area, I urge the business operators to apply to us through the respective councillor, residents association or the Village Security and Development Committee.
