Xim Phou Moon Society helps the needy on its anniversary

THE Xim Phou Moon Welfare Society Malaysia celebrated its 21st anniversary on Sept 9 with the poor in mind.

A total of RM100,000 was presented to two welfare organisations, one clan association and eight primary and secondary schools.

Another mock cheque of about RM70,000 was allocated to 999 refugee families at Vavuniya Camp in Sri Lanka and received by Malwathu Maha Viharaya Rev Laxapana Chandawimala Karmachariya and Kahalle Gnaninda Thera, a monk from the Bodhi Tree Temple.

Eighteen single mothers and 39 children were also presented with hampers, school bags and ang pow during the dinner held at Hotel Istana recently.

Organising chairman Loo Phan Khooi said the society, which is a non-profit, non-religious and non-governmental organisation, had been continuously providing financial and educational aid to the community, particularly the poor in Malaysia and overseas.

“So far, more than RM11mil has been disbursed to various charities, thanks to the contributions from Malaysians,” he said.

Spreading the sharing and caring spirits with the dinner guests were Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Lee Chee Leong, Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching, Datuk Chang Ko Youn, who represented Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, Deputy Sri Lankan High Commissioner Maj-Gen Udaya Perera, Xim Phou Moon founder and president Datuk Tan Leong Hoo and Xim Phou Moon overseas sponsor Jian Chong Jun.

Aside from the lion dance, a string of singing performances by award-winning singers and Tibetan performers was also staged to the delight of the dinner guests.
