GEORGE TOWN: Police yesterday rubbished claims that they had sided with the developer who had arrived to demolish houses at Kampung Lorong Buah Pala on Aug 13.

State acting police chief SAC I Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said the claims by the residents were unfounded.

He gave an assurance that police would take care of the interests of all parties involved in the matter.

However, he said, police would not take instructions from anyone outside the force.

"We will not take sides in this matter. We will adhere to the law to protect everybody," Tun Hisan said, adding police had also acted impartially on Aug 13.

"We did not help the developer to move anyone's property as alleged by the residents."

He said this after 12 residents turned up at the state police headquarters here to hand over a memorandum to the state police chief, Datuk Ayub Yaakob.

Tun Hisan confirmed receiving the memo.

On the arrest of three villagers on Aug 29, Tun Hisan said police acted against the trio based on three separate reports.

"We took action based on reports that they had threatened some complainants," he said, adding investigation papers against the trio had been opened and forwarded to the deputy public prosecutors' office for further action.
