Seven premises razed in pre-dawn blaze

AMPANG: Seven outlets were destroyed in a pre-dawn fire believed to have been caused by arsonists near the Ampang Industrial Park.

Initial investigations showed that the seven outlets – among them a car service centre, aluminium manufacturing centre, car repair shop, and recycling centre – may have caught fire simultaneously.

A forensics team is still looking around for clues on how the fire started, and a Fire and Rescue Department spokesman has said there is a possibility of arson.

Car repair shop owner Ah Kao, 57, said luckily the fire began at the side of his premises and didn’t spread to the back where 100 barrels of combustible oil were placed.

“If those barrels had caught fire, it would have been catastrophic as the blast would have caused other nearby factories to catch fire,” he said.
