Protesters told to disperse after vain bid to meet CM

What say you on the issue below?

GEORGE TOWN: About 20 Kampung Lorong Buah Pala residents yesterday staged a peaceful protest at Komtar about 11am.

The group -- carrying banners pleading with the prime minister and the Federal Government for help -- was advised by police to disperse after 25 minutes.

Chief Inspector Mohd Asri Dol, who heads the Jalan Patani police station, told them that what they had done was enough and there was no need to cause a scene at a public area.

But the group persisted and headed to level three where the state government offices are located, only to find the entrance shut.

There were two state secretariat staff and several security guards behind the glass doors.

A commotion ensued when the group, led by the village residents association adviser K. Maran, tried to push their way into the office. Maran protested that it was his right to be allowed entry but the state secretariat officers stood their ground.

"This is Lim Guan Eng's administration? Telling taxpayers to stay out. We own this building. We put him in this building!" he said.

Asri then told Maran that it was enough, as it was a government building with certain security issues to be considered.

"I advise you all to disperse and let people get on with their business," he said.

The group then returned to level one, where angry resident S.H. Kumar, 47, criticised Lim, saying: "Why can't he solve this? He is the chief minister.

"When (Tan Sri Dr) Koh Tsu Koon was chief minister our houses were safe. The DAP has lied to us."

The group left Komtar about noon. Kampung Lorong Buah Pala residents had been given until Sept 1 to clear out so that demolition work could commence. The land is slated for housing development.
