KUALA LUMPUR: There has been no Influenza A(H1N1) fatality in the country since Sept 19 with the death toll still at 77, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said.
He said 282 new patients with influenza-like illness (ILI) were admitted to hospitals and 130 patients were allowed to return home.
“This leaves 856 patients with ILI still warded at 95 hospitals, including at 10 private hospitals, nationwide,” he said in a statement here yesterday.
Dr Mohd Ismail said that from laboratory tests conducted, only 178 patients or 21% of those being treated were A(H1N1) positive.
About 90% of those confirmed to be infected with A(H1N1) and admitted to intensive care units were in high-risk groups, comprising children aged below five (eight), obesity (four), chronic illness (three) and chronic respiratory illness (two).
