THE 12 limited edition Chivas Regal 18 Alexander McQueen bottles that went at a special price of RM2,500 each to guests at an event was snapped up quickly within an hour of its unveiling.
Designed by international fashion designer Alexander McQueen, the couture bottle has royal blue leather detailing and a hand-enameled blue, red and gold cap, reflecting the colours of the Union Jack, known as the signature style of the British designer.
“The limited edition bottle is filled with the Chivas Regal 18 year old gold signature Scotch whisky blend. It is as desired as much as the bottle itself,” Pernod Ricard Malaysia managing director C.K Tan said.
Only 2,000 individually numbered bottles have been produced worldwide and represents “couture in a bottle” according to Tan.
According to the press release, McQueen said the bottle was a piece of art that reflected a life of luxury and the craftsmanship values that was known as haute couture.
“It is a couture-infused, collector’s bottle that will be a perfect gift for any connoisseur of high fashion or fine whisky,” McQueen said.
The event was held at Cafe Stelle at Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur amid a fashion extravaganza by Malaysian designer Cris Yong who showcased eight designs inspired by McQueen.
Guests of the event were served a four-course dinner prepared by chef Elson Cheong from Fairmont Hotel Singapore and Trinidad-born singer K.D provided the entertainment by singing a medley of songs from Fergie to Lady Gaga.
Chivas Brothers’ regional mentoring manager Darren Hosie also gave a short presentation before the main event, introducing guests to the taste and history of the brand’s 12, 18 and 25-year-old whiskies.
The Chivas Regal 18-year-old gold signature Scotch whisky is dark amber and has a multi-layered aroma of dried fruits, spice and buttery toffee in addition to having a velvety, dark chocolate taste with a light floral and smoky note.
“The brand’s image as the most dynamic premium Scotch whisky is now also known as the most fashionable because of the Alexander McQueen limited edition designer bottle,” Pernod Ricard Malaysia brand manager Aaron Ang said.
He added that one guest had wanted to buy all 12 bottles but they limited the purchase to one bottle per guest.
“This particular bottle retails at RM2,800 and is made from a blend of hand-selected whiskies of exceptional richness that gives it a rich, intense taste and smell,” Ang said, adding that there were no more available for sale locally.
