And to begin with, 26 children from two homes - Yayasan Anak Yatim Piatu in Port Dickson and Pusat Jagaan Rumah Matthew in Batu Caves were given the oppportunity to shop for the Raya clothings at the Mydin Hypermarket in Subang Jaya with the RM100 they each received.

The other Homes were - Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Islam, Mersing (Johor): Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam Malaysia Sabak Bernam, (Selangor); Asrama Anak-Anak Yatim St. Joseph (Penang); Pertubuhan Asuhan dan Didikan Anak-Anak Yatim Islam. Sik (Kedah); Persatuan Kebajikan Islam (Perkasa) in Terengganu; The Salvation Army Boy’s Home, Ipoh (Perak), Jemaah Pengurusan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim dan Miskin Ulu Gadong in Negeri Sembilan and Lembaga Pengurusan Kebajikan Anak Yatim/Miskin Islam in Malacca.

After a three-hour shopping spree, the children settled down for a buka puasa treat at the same venue.

The campaign will see all 42 Mydin outlets taking part and until Oct 31, Mydin will set aside an additional 10 sens from the sale of the MBBC charity packs of the Colgate Maximum cavity Protection or Colgate Kayu Sugi 175g toothpaste.

“This will go towards providing some financial support to the selected orphanages.

“Most people may not have the time or may not know of a platform to do so, therefore we have created the BMMC to connect the community to those in need,’’ said Colgate-Palmolive Marketing Sdn Bhd general manager Issam Bachaalani.

Bachaalani added that their target was to increase the contribution this year and the total financial contribution would go towards education, overall welfare and maintenance of the homes for the children.

“We are confident of achieving the RM100,000 target we have set this year and enable us to donate to more orphanages,’’ he said at the launch of the collaboration.

“We hope that our contribution will bring joy to the orphans in celebrating the Hari Raya,’’ he said.

Last year Mydin and Colgate contributed RM70,000 in a similar campaign.
