KUALA LUMPUR: Supporters of sacked MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek have given party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat three days to propose a date for a meeting to discuss matters on the party EGM.
Loh Seng Kok, the chief coordinator for the group, said the committee wanted to exchange its proposed resolutions with the president before considering whether or not to call for a merged EGM.
“The most important thing now is the proposed resolutions. The possibility of having only one EGM will be high if we get to see Ong’s requisition,” he told a press conference yesterday.
However, he said if both parties could not reach a consensus to hold just one EGM, an option for the committee was to submit its requisition to secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng to call for another EGM.
“The secretary-general will then have to issue a notice to central delegates to inform them of an EGM within five days according to Article 30.3 of the party constitution,” he said.
On Friday, Loh and Datuk Seri Tan Chai Ho, another chief coordinator for Dr Chua’s camp, met party officials including Wong, treasurer-general Tan Sri Tee Hock Seng, MCA legal bureau chief Datuk Leong Tang Chong and MCA headquarters chief administrative director Lim Chin Hai at Wisma MCA.
Tan and Loh left without tabling the requisition and the required 800 signatures of central delegates to call for an EGM, claiming that they refused to do so because Ong did not submit his agenda for the EGM.
Hours later, Wong claimed he had received a copy of Ong’s agenda but nothing from Tan and Loh. Tan challenged Wong to state the exact time he received Ong’s requisition because he had made a contradictory statement after the meeting.
“At the meeting, he told us he had not received Ong’s agenda. I am 100% sure he said he did not have it.”
Meanwhile, FT MCA Youth chairman Chiew Lian Keng said party delegates were wise enough to decide on issues.
“We hope all party members will accept the resolution to be taken in the EGM,” he told reporters after handing out face masks to LRT passengers in Bandar Tasik Selatan yesterday.
