Family wants body exhumed

What say you on the issue below?

ALOR GAJAH: Teoh Beng Hock’s family will request for his body to be exhumed, enabling a second post-mortem to be carried out by renowned Thai pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand.

Teoh’s younger sister Lee Lan, who is the family’s spokesman, said yesterday that they had agreed to request to have Teoh’s body exhumed following discussions with their legal counsel.

“After the previous hearing, our family sat down to discuss the matter and decided to request for the exhumation of my brother’s body for a second post-mortem.

“This is because we really want to find out the truth and we believe Dr Pornthip’s professionalism will help get to the truth behind my brother’s death,” she said at their family home in Taman Seri Kelemak here yesterday.

Seeking the truth: Teoh’s family members (from left) brother Beng Kee, Lee Lan, mother Teng Shuw Hor and father Leong Hwee speaking to reporters at their home in Alor Gajah yesterday. With them is Gobind.

Although exhumation is something considered “rude” in traditional Chinese beliefs, she said her family had no choice as they were determined to seek answers.

“Actually, we would rather not do this but in this case we are determined to find out the truth,” she said while holding back her emotions.

Lee Lan said Teoh’s wife, Soh Cher Wei, has also agreed to the exhumation with the family making arrangements for rituals to be conducted prior to the exhumation.

Meanwhile, Gobind Singh Deo, lawyer for Teoh’s family, said an application for the exhumation of Teoh’s body and second autopsy would most likely be filed in court today.

“We want to have it heard as soon as possible.

“This is because Dr Pornthip had noted that the earlier the post-mortem is done, the better the chances (of revealing Teoh’s cause of death),” he said.
